Pigmented irregularities are one of the most common skin conditions. Pigmented lesions, such as brown spots, age spots, and freckles, occur due to a buildup of excess melanin in the skin with greater pigments. This is often caused naturally as the skin ages or through exposure to the skin. BBL is used to treat the skin by applying the light energy to the affected areas, which is absorbed by the melanin. The pigmented lesions will darken and fall off after a couple of days.
Pigmented lesions can alternatively be treated by a MicroLaserPeel procedure as well. The laser removes the layer of the epidermis containing dead skin which is replaced by a new layer of healthy skin. For the most effective results, a combination of the BBL and MicroLaserPeel treatments should be used. Both treatments carry minimal downtime for patients.
How does the treatment work?
The BBL handpiece heats the skin by using light energy. The heat is then absorbed by the melanin which causes the pigmented lesions to darken after fall off after a couple of days.
What areas of the body can be treated?
The most popular areas for treatment are on the face, lower neck, and arms.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments varies from patient to patient depending on the condition. For the best results, a minimum of 4 treatments is recommended, ideally spaced 4-6 weeks apart.
What will happen during the procedure?
Your skin will be cleaned in the treatment area and your eyes will be protected with safety shields. The physician will place a chilled handpiece against the skin, which prevents the surface of the skin from overheating. Once one section of the skin is treated, the handpiece will be moved to another location until the entire treatment area has been covered. The procedure typically lasts 15 to 30 minutes.
Will it be uncomfortable?
The BBL treatment is gentle and non-invasive. There should be minimal discomfort. You may feel a warming of the skin as the procedure progresses. The sensation is no worse than a rubber band snap, though it should be noted that the sensation varies from patient to patient and depends on the intensity of treatment.
What should I expect immediately after the treatment?
Results may vary depending on your condition, number of treatments, and the area being treated, though the most typical observation is redness in the treated areas. This will resolve itself within a few hours.
How long will it take to recover?
Because this is a non-invasive procedure, there is virtually no downtime. After a session, the area treated may appear red for about an hour. However, makeup can be immediately applied and regular activities can be resumed shortly
What aftercare do I need?
No aftercare is required for this procedure, but the staff will follow up with you a day after the procedure to ensure that there are no problems.
When should I expect results?
You should be able to start seeing results within a week after the treatment. The results will become more noticeable and dramatic after a few treatments.
