Forever Young offers scar reduction treatments for those whose skin has been affected by acne in the past. By harnessing the technology of Sciton’s erbium:YAG laser, we can treat the skin fractionally instead of doing a full field resurfacing. The ProFractional treatment ablates the tissue to a specified depth, stimulating the formation of new collagen. The surrounding tissue then heals the treated area rapidly, leading to reduced downtimes and far more comfortable procedures for patients. The adjustable options offered by the ProFractional procedures allow us to treat even the most severe acne scarring and unlike the BBL treatment, the ProFractional can treat scarring for all skin types. Patients are typically required to come in for a series of 6 treatments spaced 6-8 weeks apart. Reduction in scarring can be visible within 6 weeks as the collagen forms.
How does the treatment work?
Our erbium:YAG laser improves skin from the inside out. The laser is used to treat the skin fractionally instead of doing a full-field resurfacing. The treatment ablates the tissue to a specified depth, stimulating the formation of new collagen. The surrounding tissue then heals the treated area rapidly, leading to reduced downtimes and far more comfortable procedures for patients.
What areas of the body can be treated?
The most popular areas for treatment are on the face and the upper back. The laser scar reduction procedure is effective on all skin types.
How many treatments will I need?
For the best results, 3 to 5 treatments are recommended with a 6-8 week break in between them.
What will happen during the procedure?
Your skin will be cleaned in the treatment area and your eyes will be protected with safety shields. The physician will place the laser handpiece against the skin. Once one section of the skin is treated, the handpiece will be moved to another location until the entire treatment area has been covered. The procedure typically lasts up to 30 minutes.
Will it be uncomfortable?
The laser treatment might be slightly uncomfortable to some. However, all laser procedures require the application of a topical anesthetic prior to the treatment in order to minimize discomfort to patients.
What should I expect immediately after the treatment?
The treated areas of the skin will appear red for a while. It is necessary to make sure that the cream given to you at the clinic is applied generously. Exposure to the sun should be avoided as much as possible until the skin heals.
How long will it take to recover?
As this is a laser-based procedure, a short downtime of 2 to 3 days is to be expected. The short downtime makes this a great procedure to have done before the weekend. During this time it is best to stay indoors.
What aftercare do I need?
The doctor will provide you with a cream to use for the next 2 days. You will also need a hydrating soap to use for the next week. Exposure to the sun should be avoided while you are healing. The staff will follow-up with you shortly after the procedure to address any concerns and ensure that you are healing properly.
When should I expect results?
Improvements in scar reduction can be seen within 1-2 weeks of the procedure. However, it isn’t until after the first month that you will see the additional benefits of the collagen remodeling. The results will become more dramatic and noticeable with additional treatments.
