At Forever Young, we can treat acne for light skin types through the use of broadband light (BBL). Our Sciton Joule system utilizes blue light to heat the dermis, which stimulates collagen remodeling and treats over-active sebaceous glands. Patients are typically expected to come in for 6 treatments spaced 2 weeks apart and treatment plans can be personalized depending on the severity of the condition. Visible improvements can often be seen in 4-6 weeks.
How does the treatment work?
Light energy is used to gently heat the affected areas of the skin. Overactive sebaceous glands are treated by utilizing blue light, leading to a reduction in acne.
What areas of the body can be treated?
The most popular areas for treatment are on the face and the upper back. The BBL acne reduction procedure is effective on lighter skin.
How many treatments will I need?
A minimum of 4 treatments is recommended, ideally spaced 4-6 weeks apart. It is recommended to schedule follow-up treatments to prevent any future breakouts.
What will happen during the procedure?
Your skin will be cleaned in the treatment area and your eyes will be protected with safety shields. The physician will place a chilled handpiece against the skin, which prevents the surface of the skin from overheating. Once one section of the skin is treated, the handpiece will be moved to another location until the entire treatment area has been covered. The procedure typically lasts 15 to 30 minutes.
Will it be uncomfortable?
The BBL treatment is gentle and non-invasive. There should be minimal discomfort. You may feel a warming of the skin as the procedure progresses. The sensation is no worse than a rubber band snap, though it should be noted that the sensation varies from patient to patient and depends on the intensity of treatment.
What should I expect immediately after the treatment?
Results may vary depending on your condition, number of treatments, and the area being treated, though the most typical observation is redness in the treated areas. This will resolve itself within a few hours.
How long will it take to recover?
Because this is a non-invasive procedure, there is virtually no downtime. After a session, the area treated may appear red for about an hour. However, makeup can be immediately applied and regular activities can be resumed shortly
What aftercare do I need?
No aftercare is required for this procedure, but the staff will follow up with you a day after the procedure to ensure that there are no problems.
When should I expect results?
You should be able to start seeing results within a week after the treatment. The results will become more noticeable and dramatic after a few treatments.
